Course Overview

In some games, whether or not you win is all about luck. Take the classic board game Chutes and Ladders, for example. No matter how much you practice, or how hard you try, your success is tied to the luck of the dice. On the other hand, some games require logical thinking and strategy. In this course, we will delve into the world of strategy games, with a particular focus on mathematical strategy games for which there is a “winning strategy.”

Student Outcomes:

  • Explore a variety of mathematical strategy games
  • Learn how to develop a winning strategy for specific games, and more generally for any strategy-based game
