Course Overview
Did you know the chocolate chip cookie, sticky notes, and penicillin were all complete accidents? History is full of famous "failures" that turned out to be world-changing successes.
In this immersive 90-minute workshop, history meets the makerspace to show students what happens when we view unexpected mistakes as creative opportunities.
During this session, students will analyze historic "accidental inventions" to decode how curiosity transforms a blunder into a breakthrough. Then, putting theory into practice, participants will enter a rapid makerspace challenge—using recycled materials to turn intentional design "flaws" or unexpected building obstacles into original creations.
Whether your child is an avid builder or hesitates when things don't go according to plan, this workshop offers a low-pressure environment to build resilience, flex a growth mindset, and experience the iterative process in real time.
90-Minute Workshop Takeaways:
- Deconstruct Historic "Accidents": Uncover the stories behind famous historical mishaps and the mindsets that turned them into iconic successes.
- Master Rapid Iteration: Engage in a fast-paced, hands-on building challenge using recycled materials where "mistakes" are incorporated directly into the final design.
- Build Growth Mindset & Resilience: Practice pivot-thinking, learning to see unexpected design hurdles as creative features rather than errors.
- Collaborate & Create: Experience the joy of low-stakes prototyping, walking away with a physical creation and a fresh approach to problem-solving.
