Course Overview

For many students, getting ideas onto paper feels like a prescribed chore—especially when sharing thoughts verbally comes so naturally. In this immersive 90-minute workshop, we flip the script on traditional writing by treating narrative structure as a creative playground rather than a set of rigid rules.

By analyzing how master storytellers leverage wit, irony, and rapid structural shifts to captivate readers, students will learn to break through blank-page paralysis. Through guided experimentation and high-momentum drafting, participants will explore how subtle shifts in perspective can transform simple ideas into dynamic, surprising stories.

Whether your child is a hesitant writer or a passionate storyteller, they will walk away with a fresh narrative tool, a completed piece of original writing, and a newfound appreciation for the playfulness of language.

Student Outcomes:

  • Explore the etymology of unusual words, as well as looking at authors who have created their own words in their writing
  • Examine the structure of a short story and apply the structure a unique writing piece
  • Exercise a growth mindset rooted in our beliefs about our own writing abilities and how process can support our varied learning styles
