Course Overview

Welcome to the Zagat-rated Cafe Patternea Mathematique! In this course, we will immerse ourselves in the world of algebra through a deep dive into the “menu” items of this very unique “cafe.” Delectable visual patterns will provide an entry point to describing number sequences, using variable notation, recognizing and representing different types of growth, and ultimately creating our own growing patterns.

Student Outcomes:

  • Explore the language of algebra, including using variables and function notation
  • Write algebraic descriptions of growing visual patterns
  • Connect math and art by creating and defining your own visual pattern
