Course Overview
Long before credit cards and digital wallets, people traded shells, salt, and cattle to get what they needed. The story of money is one of humanity's most fascinating adventures — and in this course, students will follow that story from its earliest origins all the way to the financial systems that shape the world around them today.
Through lively discussion, hands-on activities, and real-world examples, students will explore how money was invented, why it took so many different forms across different civilizations, and how modern concepts like credit, interest, and banking came to be.
Student Outcomes:
- Understand how money evolved across human history, from bartering to digital currency
- Explore the mechanics of credit, interest, and borrowing in everyday life
- Recognize how financial systems connect to broader historical and societal events
